A slice of paradise



Imagine combining the thrill of a luxury island escape with all the comforts of home, closely connected by water to other dwellings and modern amenities and you have Secret Harbour: 125 unique homes inspired by some of the world’s most beautiful maritime villages. When complete, the new development by Mike Ryan – owner/developer of The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman (the number one rated resort in the region) and a man who is always shooting to stay ahead – will be the Caribbean’s only sea-to-sea resort community. As part of his research, Mike set out by boat and sailed half way around the globe seeking to understand “why people have always gravitated to a life on the water and how to make it sustainable and supportive of growth.” The visionary’s journey led him to a “string of awe-inspiring locales that were at one time settled or rebuilt by the British – most often during colonial times”. He explains: “The British have architectural roots in seaside villages all over the world. They are classic.” It is true that unlike other architectural styles that go in and out of fashion as regularly as the tide, colonial buildings have remained timeless and have enduring appeal hence the style’s influence on Secret Harbour. To the British colonial exterior, the architects (Zurcher Arquitectos) will add special details like Mediterranean tiles and iron craftsmen doors to enhance, enliven “and add character to the buildings
