Bottled Water - Tap Into Alternatives!

Mar 1, 2010

The consumption of bottled water is an environmental challenge throughout the world especially in areas where there is little or no recycling. Along with plastic bags, plastic bottles are one of the most prevalent sources of pollution found on the beaches around the world.

Those of us who reside in the Cayman Islands have the privilege of living in one of the safest, cleanest islands in the world and the team at Dragon Bay invites you to continue to preserve the environment and natural beauty of the Cayman Islands by reducing the amount of waste produced.

There is a simple alternative to buying bottled water--purchase yourself a nifty eco-friendly, safe, reusable water bottle and use it! This alternative is an excellent way to cut down on wasteful single use containers, while also saving you money.

The tap water in The Cayman Islands is very safe but if you don't like the way your tap water tastes, inexpensive carbon filters will turn most tap water sparkling fresh at a fraction of bottled water's cost. Remember, most bottled water is basically purified and reprocessed tap water anyway.

In addition to distributing reusable stainless steel water bottles all owners at The Residences at The Ritz-Carlton, The DeckHouses and Secret Harbour, Dragon Bay is also offering the bottles for sale at cost.

To purchase a Dragon Bay reusable water bottle contact Dragon Bay via email at dragonbay@residences-cayman.com or contact the Owner’s Ambassador at 1 (345) 324-0503.

Plastic Bottle Facts:

One in five Canadians drinks only bottled water, while Americans alone bought an estimated 25 billion single-serving plastic water bottles just last year. Out of that number an estimated eight out of ten plastic bottles (or 22 billion) will end up in a landfill. Bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year, and requires the burning of large amounts of fossil fuels for production, transport and recycling. In American alone, 1.5 million barrels of oil are used annually to produce plastic water bottles – that’s enough to fuel some 100,000 U.S. cars for a year.

Eco Tip - Use reusable water bottles:

Instead of disposable water bottles, get refillable stainless steel, aluminum, or bio-plastic bottles for tap water and organic beverages. Breaking the disposable bottled water habit reduces the use of fossil fuels and toxic greenhouse gases that result from manufacturing plastic bottles, most of which end up as landfill waste.

Footprints In History: Traditional Architecture

Cayman’s first settlers in the 1700s brought their own home-building traditions with them. The English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish had memories of timber-framed, brick or stone houses; and the African slaves’ knowledge was of mud-walled homes with grass roofs. These diverse traditions combined to develop a uniquely Caymanian building style.
