ISLAND HAPPENINGS

The annual calendar begins in January with the epicurean delight, the Cayman Cookout, hosted at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. Later in the month, enjoy Cayman's visual arts on display at Government House at the National Gallery's Art @ Governor's event and celebrate Caymanian heroes on National Heroes Day.

The Cayman Arts Festival fills the air with the sound of music in February, and no one misses the annual Agricultural Show held every year on Ash Wednesday. Easter brings the annual sailing Regatta, as well as Easter egg hunts, church services, and the Caymanian tradition of weekend beach campsites.

In April the island is abuzz with the sounds of the Million Dollar Run powerboat race. April is also Cayfest month – the Cayman Islands' national festival of arts and culture. Enjoy a Caribbean carnival in May with Batabano, and enjoy Cayman's colonial tradition with the official observance of the Queen's Birthday in June.

Fast forward to November for the annual Pirates Week national festival celebrating the Islands' seafaring and swashbuckling past, and the sweet trade winds of December bring in both the smooth strains of jazz with the Cayman Jazz Fest and the athleticism of the Cayman Islands Marathon.

Later in December, enjoy a tropical Christmas - complete with tree lighting events, visits from Santa, lighting displays and competitions, and a dizzying social whirl of holiday parties to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
